We are pleased to announce the launch of an exciting enhancement for our Wind Power Generation Forecast: icing forecast.
This innovative addition is designed to bring our customers more accurate and reliable predictions, enabling them to significantly reduce balancing costs, enhance safety, and maximize their wind power generation.
The importance of icing forecasts
Icing in wind power generation can be a formidable challenge. This occurs when freezing temperatures turn the moisture in the air into ice on wind turbine blades. This ice can disrupt turbine performance, reducing power output and potentially causing blade damage. Moreover, safety concerns often force wind turbines to be shut down when ice is detected, leading to downtime and financial losses.
In fact, we’ve discovered that inaccurately forecasted icing events can be responsible for up to 25% of yearly balancing costs, based on insights from discussions with our valued customers. Recognizing the profound impact of these events, we’ve diligently worked on enhancing our Wind Power Forecast to include icing forecasts.
Icing forecast by Dexter Energy
Starting on the 2nd October of 2023, our Wind Power Forecast will be adjusted to take into account the power loss caused by predicted icing events. This enhancement will seamlessly integrate into our existing forecast and API. Our customers don’t need to do anything to benefit from it; the forecast will be automatically adjusted.
By taking into account icing in the Wind Power Forecast, our clients will gain a significant advantage in planning their market position during periods with a high likelihood of icing. This valuable information empowers them to manage risks and maximize profitability.
At Dexter Energy, we’re dedicated to continuously enhancing our products to meet the evolving needs of short-term energy traders. The addition of icing to our Wind Power Forecast reflects our commitment to providing the most accurate and reliable forecast available.
